Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, or simply Chengdu Panda Base, is a non-profit research and breeding facility for giant pandas and other rare animals. It was founded in 1987, started with 6 giant pandas that were rescued from the wild. By 2008, it had 124 panda births, and the captive panda population has grown to 83.
Located 10kms (6 miles) north of Chengdu city, Chengdu panda base covers an area of 600 acres. You can see the giant pandas, the red (or lesser) pandas, peacocks, and the black swans, furthermore, you may have a chance to take pictures with holding a panda by donating CNY 2000 (for option only). This donation program is subject to the availability of pandas on that day. Please bring enough Chinese cash,as credit card is not accepted here.
Our English speaking guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel at 7:30a.m. Then we will drive about 40mins to Chengdu Panda BaseA non-profit research and breeding facility for giant pandas and other rare animals. It was founded in 1987. It started with 6 giant pandas that were rescued from the wild. By 2008, it had 124 panda births, and the captive panda population has grown to 83.Its stated goal is to "be a world-class research facility, conservation education center, and international educational tourism destination.". Walk another 15mins in the bamboo groves from the entrance to pandas’ nursery, and then we can see the lovely baby pandas (below 1.5 years old). If possible, you could donate to hold a baby panda for pictures here. We will continue to see the sub-adult pandas (1.5-5 year old), adult pandas (over 5 years old), red pandas, peacocks, black swans, to watch a 15mins movie about pandas, to visit panda and butterfly museum. After that, your guide and driver will escort you back to your hotel. (By the way, you can have lunch inside the panda base which is about 80 yuan per person)
